Padauk, African (H) (Pterocarpus soyauxii) aka Camwood. Central and West Africa. Vivid blood red, toning down to a dark purple-brown with red streaks. Despite its density it has only a slight blunting effect on tools. Great for decorative knife handles. Polishes well. Specific gravity .72
